The Katsunuma railway station was completed in 1913. However, local transportation to the station relied on horses and wagons until the use of automobiles became popular. The station was located on a high point, and the horses had a hard time pulling heavy loads up to it. A watering place, built of stone, was provided along the roadside on the way to the station.
