Kashiosan Daizenn-ji Temple
Japan Heritage/Architecture/Shrine/Temple
Legend has it that this temple was founded in 718 by Gyoki, a famous Buddhist priest of the Nara period (710 - 794). The main hall has been designated a National Treasure by the Japanese government while Buddhist statues, including the principal image, are important cultural properties. This temple is popular among locals as the "grape temple". Grapes produced in its precincts and near-by fields are used to make wine, which is provided to visitors.
